Fall 2017

t

What’s new this season? Summer is officially over and a fresh batch of autumn 2017 trends is emerging from around the corner. Rather than the old-fashioned system of one thing being “out” while another is deemed “in,” designers have broken down the boundaries of what can be considered of-the-moment. These are the trends worth noting:

Silver

Seen at so many shows this season, silver flirted with the conceptual, creating hybrids with padding and pleats, and providing a modern twist on classic quilted jackets which were posed simply on the shoulders. When Karl Lagerfeld built a Chanel rocket launchpad in the middle of the Grand Palais, the trend for space-age fabrics was confirmed. Designers offered all sorts of ways to dress, the optimism and high shine of the Space Age is back on catwalks for fall.

Pantsuit

Suits were a near-constant feature on the fall runways. The new trend for business suits is intriguing; designers from Stella McCartney to Victoria Beckham served no-frills takes on power women this season, perhaps inspired by pantsuit legend Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Red

It´s official: red is the color of Fall 2017. Designers from Miuccia Prada to Donatella Versace created slinky dresses in bright cherry, while Monse and Proenza Schouler provided asymmetric and artful options. There were sleek coats at Givenchy, monochromatic looks at Tod’s, and a statement OTK boot by Fendi soon-to-be seen all over the street style circuit.

Checks

Following in the wake of the 90s spirit, it was everywhere this season, a geometric game of checked flannel to wear open, to layer over a leotard or knit or alone as a top for the ultimate look.

Cozy

A modern twist on the cozy classic where wool is broken down and reinterpreted in new and poetic ways, dabbling with fringing, sometimes stretched out or infused with a touch of Hygge, the Danish craze for comfort. Comfort: one trend we can always get behind. The new wool come in blush, terracotta or teal.

Deconstruction

The twisted shirting trend that dominated last season is still going strong for fall. Designers are getting crazy when it comes to the textile, all in all, mixed materials and classics are the new trends this fall.
